The Länsimetro – Western Metro project provides a new transportation link between Helsinki and Espoo at the length of 14km completely driven underground. Rail section LU6E – Karhusaari consists of total drive- age 2 613m of track tunnels excavated in hard granite formations by usage of method Drill&Blast. Construction is including three technological chambers with ventilati- on shafts in each of them and seven interconnection tu- nnels. The route of the section is partly conducted under the sea and among other underpasses foundations of administrative complex Nokia. Challenging task was excavation in difficult undersea passages, in vibration sensitive zones together with excessive amount of grou- ting works.
